Lowell is a city in Lane County, in the U.S. state of Oregon. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 1,045.[3] The city is on the north shore of Dexter Reservoir on the Middle Fork Willamette River. The most used route to Lowell is along Lowell Bridge, a covered bridge that crosses the reservoir from Oregon Route 58.
A post office called Lowell has been in operation since 1883.[5] The city was named after Lowell, Maine.[6]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 1.19 square miles (3.08 km2), of which, 0.87 square miles (2.25 km2) is land and 0.32 square miles (0.83 km2) is water. The town of Lowell is surrounded by three reservoirs, respectively Dexter, Lookout Point, and Fall Creek. This makes the town a popular recreation area for people from Eugene and Springfield.[7]
The climate of Lowell differs slightly from that of Eugene, which is at lower elevation. Lowell receives 8 inches (20 cm) more of rain and 2 inches (51 mm) more of snow per year than Eugene. In central Lane County, that two inches is significant considering the lack of snow. The higher areas of the town receive more snow and rain as well. Wedged among three reservoirs, it experiences thick winter fog.[8][9]
As of the census of 2010, there were 1,045 people, 397 households, and 298 families living in the city. The population density was 1,201.1 inhabitants per square mile (463.7/km2). Lexington is a city in Morrow County, Oregon, United States. The population was 238 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pendleton–Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Lexington was named by early settler William Penland for his hometown of Lexington, Kentucky.[5] Lexington post office was established in 1885.[5] In 1886, shortly after Morrow County was created, Lexington lost by 33 votes to Heppner in an election to determine the county seat.[6] The city was incorporated in 1903, and had a population of 185 at the 1910 census.[7]
Sheep ranching was important in the region during the days of early settlement by non-natives. It continues in the 21st century and has been joined by wheat farming and cattle ranching as significant uses of the land.[8]
Lexington is at an elevation of 1,450 feet (440 m)[4] between the Columbia River to the north and the Blue Mountains to the southeast.[9] The city is along Oregon Route 74, about 9 miles (14 km) northwest of Heppner.[9] Lexington is about 38 miles (61 km) southwest of Hermiston and 174 miles (280 km) east of Portland.[9][10]
Willow Creek flows through Lexington, which is downstream of Heppner and upstream of Ione and Arlington.[9] According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.44 square miles (1.14 km2), all of it land.[11]

La Grande /ləˈɡrænd/ is a city in Union County, Oregon, United States. Originally named "Brownsville," it was forced to change its name because that name was being used for a city in Linn County. Located in the Grande Ronde Valley, the city's name comes from an early French settler, Charles Dause, who often used the phrase "La Grande" to describe the area's beauty. The population was 13,082 at the 2010 census.[6] It is the county seat of Union County.[7] La Grande lies east of the Blue Mountains and southeast of Pendleton.
The Grande Ronde Valley had long been a waypoint along the Oregon Trail. The first permanent settler in the La Grande area was Benjamin Brown in 1861.[8] Not long after, the Leasey family and about twenty others settled there. The settlement was originally named after Ben Brown as Brown's Fort, Brown's Town, or Brownsville. There was already a Brownsville in Linn County, so when the post office was established in 1863, a more distinctive name was needed.[9][10] It was decided to use "La Grande", a phrase used by a Frenchman, Charles Dause, to describe the area's scenic splendor.[10] Before the post office was established, William Currey charged 50 cents a letter to carry the mail on horseback to and from the nearest post office, in Walla Walla, Washington.[10] La Grande was incorporated as a city in 1865,[9] and platted in 1868.[11]
La Grande grew rapidly during the late 1860s and early 1870s, partially because of the region's many gold mines and the valley's agricultural capabilities. The early business establishments centered on C Avenue between present day Fourth Street and the hillside on the west end.[10]
In 1884, the railroad came to the flat slightly east of "Old Town".[10] This helped the town to grow and gave rise to "New Town", centered on Adams Avenue and built parallel to the railroad tracks.

Helix is a city in Umatilla County, Oregon, United States. The population was 184 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pendleton–Hermiston Micropolitan Statistical Area.
Helix, a geometry term and a part of the ear, was originally to be named Oxford, but authorities declined that option when the community's post office was to be named in 1880.[5] The citizens then decided on Helix since a resident had recently had ear surgery.[5] The author of Oregon Geographic Names, Lewis A. McArthur, had his doubts about the story.[5]
According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 0.13 square miles (0.34 km2), all of it land.[6]
As of the census of 2010, there were 184 people, 55 households, and 46 families living in the city. The population density was 1,415.4 inhabitants per square mile (546.5/km2). There were 68 housing units at an average density of 523.1 per square mile (202.0/km2). The racial makeup of the city was 81.0% White, 8.7% Native American, 3.8% from other races, and 6.5% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 6.0% of the population.[3]
There were 55 households, of which 43.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 63.6% were married couples living together, 10.9% had a female householder with no husband present, 9.1% had a male householder with no wife present, and 16.4% were non-families. 9.1% of all households were made up of individuals, and 1.8% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.35 and the average family size was 3.54.[3]
